I am not fully through the film yet and agree with so much. However, I feel incensed by the commentator making a sweeping statement that something like 80% of the population would state they have ADHD characteristics. And attributing it to a short attention span. This invalidates and diminishes so many key characteristics of ADHD. Many people with ADHD are extremely insight form and intelligent and can concentrate on specific areas of interest and achieve greatly in specific areas.
Additionally, I know lots of children who have not had traumatic childhood’s who have neurodivergent conditions. As well as adults. Whilst I would attribute my mental health issues with trauma and the environment I have spent many many years of my life being content and happy in a supportive environment where my ADHD was accepted and my authenticity was accepted. I think a lot of people and children with nd do not feel a sense of belonging which contributes to mental health issues, but they would be nd regardless.
